Today I started a new composition of a corner of a Castle in Tokyo but it has its ups and downs. I spent several hours today painting it and it has challenged me in a lot of ways.
The main challenges for me in this paint are as follows:
Painting a white Japanese style building using my pointillism technique.
What colour do I do the dots if it is bright sunshine on a white building and will you see the dots? I have managed to find a way by using yellows and oranges as well as various very light shades of grey.
A clear blue bright sky with no clouds.
Normally I let the canvas be the white clouds and I paint a pattern that I see in the clouds using the sky around it and the colour of the clouds but in a clear blue sky with no clouds? Not sure where to go here. The only pattern I see is the possibility of a pattern by playing with different shades of blue.
Starting with a dark wash on the moat
I have often wondered if it is good to start with a dark wash rather than really light ones so I am trying it with this and I have to say I am really hating it. With a passion I might add as well. It is a fairly big area and I will just need to keep going with the dots
I think I will need at least 4-8 more hours to complete this painting given my challenges and what I have at the moment.
On other fronts, I have still only got 11 subscribers on YouTube and I am back to 0 pageviews on my personal site (www.leodrysdale.com).
All-in-all, I have thrown myself in the deep-end here but if I come out with something decent then I will have learnt a lot of new techniques. Fingers crossed it all works out.
